Battersea Fields RMO on three occasions over December and January have had to arrange for the drains to be unblocked due to the build-up of wipes.
Whilst the packaging may state they can be disposed of down the toilet this is not the case, as they cause serious blockages especially to the communal pipes which then can back up into residents’ toilets.
Below is a list of what cannot be put down the toilet and which will contribute to the pipes/drains getting blocked;
- Do not put fat or oil into your drainage system. Leave them to cool then place in a suitable container and put them in the bin or pour the oil into one of the green Proper Oil recycling containers situated outside Walden House and Berry House.
- Never flush nappies, wipes, incontinence pads, sanitary towels, cotton buds or condoms down the toilet. Put them in the bin.
- Never allow rubble, or other objects to fall into the drain or inspection chamber.
Please therefore discontinue throwing wipes down the toilet and put them in the general household waste, to be disposed of down the chutes or paladins, and of course the same applies to nappies and sanitary products.
We would also like to advise that toilet rim fresheners are also a cause of blockages as they can fall into the toilet pan and become lodged in the toilet waste pipes. Please therefore use these with caution.
Thank you for your co-operation. If you have any questions, please contact the office on: 0207 622 7499.
